Tea

Yesterday, I did something I rarely do. I drove a half mile and had tea with two ladies I am acquainted with but do not know very well. Of course, they also have special needs kids. Their kids are in the same school district as mine. One of their kids is in GB's class. It was interesting to hear their perspective on the various people we interact with. We exchanged lawyers names and neuropsych's numbers (not quite recipes) and all in all, it was an enjoyable ninety minutes. Maybe not the normal, mainstream dropping by for coffee, but probably as close as I am going to get.

This is more or less my social life, as well! I am grateful for it, though b/c 1)I need adult interaction and 2)at least they get it and you don't have to pretend to be a normal mom. The other day a parent at Ben's preschool tried to strike up a conversation, but I was such an exhausted zombie b/c of all the stuff going on with K, that I just couldn't keep up my end. I am sure she thinks I am a freak, but at least my other SN moms would totally get it.

Sounds great...and pretty "normal" to me...what ever that is...moms talking about their kids...it nice to have people around who 'get' you. (I'm still looking)

tea makes nauseous.

Sounds normal to me...except that I'm so caught up in the day to day stuff around here that I don't force myself to go out. Or, I actually plan to go (as I did yesterday) and have to cancel because of sickness, meltdowns, etc., etc.!

I'm glad you spent time with people who understand.

I don't think I've ever done a "normal mainstream" coffee. Talking w/ parents who don't have special needs kids is so tiring; 80% of the time I'm explaining or educating ... I've had great conversations w/ moms in therapy waiting rooms. Week after week for an hour at a time ... that counts as coffee, right? (Especially since I am usually drinking one!)
